Photography during the Holidays

Texture, color, shape.

A flower that’s not a flower.

Intense red and deep green.

And for me, a new project gallery :-)

We know the holidays have arrived when suddenly there are poinsettias everywhere you look. I enjoy the bright color they bring, and find them to be very interesting: the way the leaves start out small and red, grow to a good size, then transition in color to green. A very interesting plant, botanically speaking.

When, a few weeks ago, my wife brought home a beautiful, fairly large specimen, I immediately knew a photo session was going to happen. Sporting more than a dozen “blossoms”, the plant had lots to explore. My eye found many interesting views, so I was immediately looking forward to getting the camera out.

We had a good time, the poinsettia and I. I easily forget how remarkably relaxing it is to set aside time to do just one thing, with no set agenda nor outcome, and with the luxury of no real time limit. So, with eagerness, I studied the way the leaves overlapped, the shapes of their edges (there was a particularly curvy one, shown below), and their velvety texture. It really is an interesting plant.

I’m pleased with the results, which you can see in my new project gallery, Poinsettia. If you feel motivated, I would love to hear your thoughts on the images.
